3M™ Ultra S800 Security Window Film · installed by Epic
Micro-layered like ripstop. One standard of attachment.
The 3M security film tested for blast, impact and seismic events — installed anchored to the frame, never film-only.
When glass breaks under impact, flying shards become the danger. Ultra S800’s micro-layered construction flexes to absorb shock and hold glass in place. If you own a piece of ripstop gear — a hunting jacket, a pack, a tent fly — you already understand it: the woven grid stops a tear from running. Ultra S800 is built the same way, in film. A tear that starts in one micro-layer cannot run through the next. Where standard single-layer film tears, S800 holds — multi-threat protection against forced entry, smash-and-grab, blasts, and seismic events.

What it does, and what makes it a system.
Ultra S800 is built from many micro-layers of polyester bonded into one 8-mil film, so a tear in one layer does not travel through the next. It is tested across blast, forced-entry and seismic standards, and it is the right choice where an 8-mil film is specified or where a thinner profile matters. Like every security film, it only performs as tested when it is attached to the frame.
Why buildings choose 3M Ultra S800
- Blast protection: Mitigates flying-glass risk in explosions, protecting occupants and assets.
- Seismic protection: Retains broken glass in the frame, reducing injuries and property damage.
- Forced-entry resistance: Holds broken glass in the frame under repeated impact, making it more difficult for an intruder to break in.
- UV protection: Blocks 99.9% of UV rays to protect furnishings and interiors.
- Optically clear: No tint or color shift — building appearance unchanged.
How Epic installs this film
Epic installs Ultra S800 the same way it installs 3M S2400: precision-cut and kitted off-site, bonded to the glass by Epic-employed Certified Installation Specialists, and anchored to the frame with a continuous structural silicone attachment. The attachment is what keeps the pane in the opening after the glass breaks.
What sets 3M Ultra S800 apart
- Ripstop, in film form — Like ripstop fabric, the micro-layers stop a tear from running — the engineering behind 3M’s tear resistance.
- Micro-layered construction — Micro-layers flex to absorb impact — standard single-layer films tear where S800 holds.
- Multi-threat rated — Blast, break and entry, safety glazing, and seismic.
- 8-mil strength — 1,075 lbs tear resistance (3M family card) · 31,500 psi tensile strength.
- 3M certified performance — Verified by independent third-party labs.
- Patent-pending Epic Method installation — Maximizes S800 performance under real-world impact.
3M Ultra S800 rating

Drag the handle. Only the glass changes; the bars show how much light and heat still come through with this film. Switch shades or series to compare.
3M Scotchshield safety and security films. The security films (3M S2400, Ultra S800, S140 and the Ultra solar-safety films) are installed with the Epic Method attachment; the S40, S70 and S80 safety films are bonded to the glass for breakage and human-impact protection. Clear films leave the glass looking unchanged; the Ultra films add Prestige or Night Vision sun control to the same layer. Eleven films.

Rendering is computed from the film’s published optical values applied only to the glass in each photo (clear-glass baseline: 88% VLT, 8% exterior reflectance). This is a simulation; actual appearance varies with glass type, sun angle and shade — we put real samples on your real glass before you decide.

3M S2400
The only polyurethane security film we know of — every other security film on the market is polyester (PET). About 4X the elongation (560% vs 130%) and two-thirds more Graves tear resistance (24.6 vs 14.8 lbf·in) than a 22-mil PET security film, by 3M’s published data — and installed anchored to the frame with the Epic Method, never film-only.
